On Tuesday, Juventus striker Francesco totti was suspended from participating in all sporting activities for the duration of the Serie A season.
Totti, who is still on trial, was fined €30,000 and banned from playing for the remainder of the season.
The 23-year-old was involved in a car accident during the team’s 2-0 victory over Juventus on Sunday.
His teammate Giorgio Chiellini was also involved in the accident.
Toto was also injured in the crash, and is expected to undergo surgery on his neck.
Tello has not commented on his suspension from all activities, and Juventus confirmed the news on Tuesday.
“The Italian Football Federation has informed me that Totti will not participate in all the sporting activities of the team for the next 12 months, in particular, during the current Champions League, Europa League, Copa del Rey and Coppa Italia,” the statement read.
“We want to clarify that Toto is not suspended for any reason, but he is under the influence of drugs, he has taken a significant amount of the medication for his depression and has not participated in training for two months.
The Juventus club is not aware of any disciplinary proceedings against Totti.”
Totti has been fined €10,000 by the club, but has not yet responded to the statement.
Tottos last appearance for the Bianconeri came on October 5, 2012, when he scored his first Serie A goal in a 2-1 victory over Genoa.
He scored in the 2-2 draw with Lazio on October 13.
Juventus have been in the top two places in Serie A for the past five seasons. [FIFA]
